St. Jude Work Day – August 15, 2009
A team of over 65 volunteers from St. Jude began their caravanned down to St.Cecilia’s at 6:30 a.m. We were joined by over 20 St. Cecilia parents to attack the many tasks that were on the school’s to-do list. Since school would begin the following week, it was critical that we finished everything on our list that day. We basically divided and conquered…
We had teams for defragmenting their computers, a landscape and grounds team, a touch up paint team, a team to mount ceiling projectors, a sand and stain doors team, a walls and windows team, and a replacement of ceiling tiles team. All hands were on deck… we cleaned, scrubbed, drilled, crawled, climbed, sanded, stained, painted, scraped, washed, dried, mowed, weeded, hauled, etc… One of our trailers made several trips to the city dump.
One of the parents on the advisory board, smoked and grilled a fabulous barbeque lunch.
We also delivered lots of school supplies including tons construction paper which they were able to use to begin their art program.
A week or so later, another team went down to install white boards over their old chalk boards.
The staff and students were amazed by the “not-so extreme make-over” when they arrived on the first day of school.
Thanks to all our volunteers who dedicated one Saturday of their very busy lives to lend a helping hand!
