7th and 8th Grade Religious Education
“Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us?” These are the words of two of the disciples who walked to Emmaus with a stranger. As they were walking they were debating about the purpose of the suffering and death of Jesus. A stranger approached and asked to walk with them. As he did, he opened their eyes and hearts to all that had happened in the Old Testament and how Jesus fulfilled all things. Before this stranger parted from them, he revealed that He was Jesus. During the entire journey to Emmaus He hid himself from these disciples so they would feel free and be challenged to discuss all that had happened.
This road to Emmaus is one that we hope to journey on with YOUR FAMILY. Our prayer is that as your child receives the Sacrament of Confirmation their hearts are burning for Jesus and they have a firm knowledge and understanding of our Faith. During this journey, Jesus may "hide" Himself as He did on the road with the disciples, but we want you to have faith knowing that He is always with us and will always lead us to a greater encounter with Him. We have only to say YES.
The primary focus of our Middle School Ministry, or Emmaus, is to prepare our youth for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Emmaus is a two-year program for 7th and 8th Grade Middle School Students. Students will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at the end of their second year. To start Confirmation preparation in or after 8th grade, please contact Katie to review your options.
Throughout the two-year Confirmation preparation journey, students will be utilizing various resources as guides and references to gain a deeper understanding of their Catholic faith, what it means to be confirmed, and how they are being called right now. The primary resource being utilized is Ascension Press's Chosen. We also use a variety of supplemental resources to make a well-rounded program for our students. In addition to diving into these resources, students are invited into authentic discussion, hands-on activity, and prayer during their weekly gatherings.
Through catechesis, service opportunities, retreats, and a variety of events, we strive to meet the spiritual and social needs of our youth. Parents and families are an important part of this process. As a parish family, we look forward to working together, so that our youth experience a strong sense of community and support.
