The Furniture Ministry collects gently used furniture and household items for families in need. We help people in crisis including, but not limited to: - individuals or families who have suffered loss of their household belongings due to fire, storms, or flood
- people starting a new life after homelessness, significant financial loss, abusive situations or incarceration
We are a ministry designed to serve the needs of people regardless of religion, race, or sexual preference. Our clients receive confidential services with compassion, dignity, and grace. We work closely with the Samaritan Inn (a local homeless shelter) and other organizations who identify clients who are transitioning from homelessness back into housing. Clients and donors must be in Allen, McKinney or Plano if PHP is picking up or delivering.
Clients/Recipients:
PHP delivers both furniture and household items. Deliveries occur between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM (noon) on Saturdays unless special requests are accepted. If you are in need of assistance, fill out this form.
Because of the many needs, we can provide similar furniture to someone at the same address no more frequently than once a year (i.e. we may take a bed one month and a couch the next, but we will not replace any items delivered within 12 months after delivery).
Donors:
We will pick up donated furniture. Pickups occur between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM (Noon) on Saturdays unless special requests are accepted. Donated household items are requested to be brought to St. Jude's PHP facilities (the southwest corner of the church parking lot) on Saturday mornings between 8:30 and 10:30 or by special arrangement. Please enter requests for pick by filling out this form.We take only the items on the form unless special arrangements are made.
Guidelines for what we are looking for are here: We reserve the right to not take items that we do not think are useful to our clients. No broken (or wobbly) legs, drawers, doors, seats, chair backs are taken unless they can be fixed before loading.Things we will take Things we cannot take Sofas and Chairs: No tears (stuffing visible), stains or odors (cigarette, etc) CRT TVs Coffee tables less than 52 in by 36 in Entertainment centers End tables Armoire Lamps Hutch or buffet Kitchen tables and chairs Tables larger than 64 x 40 Bed frames and headboards: twin/full/queen King beds unless we have a specific request Mattresses twin/full/queen, no stains or odors Washer/Dryers unless we have a specific request Nightstands China Cabinets Dressers less than 62” by 40” Really large items Bookshelves less than 40” by 40” Small area rugs <5’x 8’ Wall decorations TVs and DVD players shown to be working, with power cords and remotes TV stand Hardwood Computer desks and chairs less than 51” wide, no top shelves Household items listed in the link (linens and kitchenware)
Volunteers
