St. Rita in Honduras, our Sister parish since at least 2005, has some good news to pass on regarding their Catholic School that we financially helped to make a reality, which opened in 2019. The ministry of Education in Honduras has approved the school to move to “the third basic level”, meaning they can now have grades seventh, eight, and ninth. To start these grades they are asking for our support to help build more classrooms for the school.
St. Rita parish in Honduras has obtained an estimate to build the classrooms for this expansion, a cost of $141,517. Because of your generosity, we have already acquired $53,000 for this project. For this purpose we will have an “Ask Weekend”, September 17th-18th, where we hope to raise a goal of $100,000 dollars for the school to continue to grow and to give the children a Catholic and quality education up to these levels of 7th, 8th, and 9th. Why is this important? Most children stop after 5th grade in Honduras, for public school is only free up until that grade. Because we have many parishioners that give scholarships to the children every semester, and the teachers, the tuition of the school is indeed manageable for many families.
The new phase of the school will include… for the first level…three additional classrooms and a room for the finished cistern. (It is needed for water for their restrooms). The second level will include three additional classrooms.
For those parishioners that were not here when we had our “Ask” to help build the school (grades kinder to 6th grade) back in 2017, we want you to be informed and a part of this future project. Please look on our website under Outreach/Honduras School to see pictures of the school, to see the students we are helping, and that we have been so proud to be supporting. It is with a healthy pride we have had a relationship with this sister parish since Fr. Tim Church’s time as pastor of St. Jude, since 1999. As a parish community we helped them over the years purchase a Palm Farm, put in a well for water at the parish, brought the Welcome Retreat to the parish, and has focused on helping with the top priority of the Bishop of Honduras, to build a Catholic school.
I am very excited to once again help the St. Rita Community in Honduras. So much can be done with the pooling of all of our generosity together, and we can allow our donations to go a long way to give a better hope for the children in the future.
To make a donation there will be envelopes in the pew on September 17th and 18th. You can also go online to make a donation. We thank you in advance for your continued support and generosity. If you'd like to make an online donation, click here.
