"The Advocate, the Holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name - He will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you." John 14:26
Through Confirmation, we become fully initiated members of the "working body of Christ", by and through the gifts of the Holy Spirit, conferred through the Sacrament of Confirmation (Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Fortitude, Piety, fear of the Lord)
All students preparing for Confirmation are called Confirmation "candidates" or "confirmandi". For JYM1 confirmandi, the primary focus of the year is evangelization. The church strives to ensure that the members of the Young Church are in relationship with the person of Christ. Students will focus on the love story of salvation and how Christ is present to them through the Sacraments of His Church.
As the primary catechists (teachers) of the faith for their children, parents are a crucial part of the faith journey of every child. There is no substitute for the faith model which a parent provides for their child. Involvement of parents and sponsors at the time of preparing for Confirmation is an excellent opportunity for the deepening of one's own spirituality through sharing of stories of faith and personal growth; group prayer and service.
For JYM1 families, the September parent meeting is critical in helping parents understand the goals and objectives of our Confirmation program; the mechanics of the process; outlining the parents’ role; and service and attendance requirements of the candidate (student). A calendar containing dates of youth classes, events, and service activities is provided in the parent packet.
As the first precept of the Church, regular Mass attendance is a requirement for practicing Catholics; those preparing to receive sacraments should be especially circumspect in their adherence to these obligations.
JYM1 Confirmation Prep Classes meet on Sunday afternoons from 1:30-3:00pm, Monday Nights from 6:30-7:30, and Wednesday Nights from 6:30-7:30. Parents may select the day and time most convenient for their family as long as spaces remain available. Registration begins the prior Spring.
